Yankees Visit Baltimore Looking To Cool Off The Red Hot Orioles

new york yankees 2017 mlbAfter winning three of four against the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees will visit Baltimore, Maryland, to play a three-game series against one of the hottest teams in the majors: the Orioles.

After taking the final series of the year against their division rivals, the New York Yankees (73-63) trail the Red Sox by 3.5 games (77-60) in the battle for the lead of the A.L East and lead the A.L Wild Card standings by two games.

Baltimore (70-67) is tied with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, trailing the Minnesota Twins by 1.5 games (71-65), who own the American League’s second wild card spot.

The Orioles, who have won 9 of their last 11 games, trail the Yankees by 3.5 games. The two A.L East rivals will face each other four more times (September 14-17 at Yankee Stadium) in a stretch of 13 games.

New York is 7-5 in 12 games this season against the Orioles, but these two teams have not met on a baseball field since June. Baltimore finished the first half of the season with a 42-46 record but is 27-21 after the All-Star Game, with an 18-13 record since August 1.

Rookie left-hander Jordan Montgomery (7-7, 4.15) will open the series for the Yankees, while right-hander Dylan Bundy (13-8, 3.94) will do it for the Orioles.

On Tuesday, veteran left-handed pitcher CC Sabathia (11-5, 3.71) will face Dominican right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez (5-9, 6.85), while Sonny Gray (8-9, 3.36, 2-4, 3.16 with Yankees) and Jeremy Hellickson (8-8, 5.15) will clash on Wednesday.

After receiving the Yankees at Oriole Park, Baltimore will travel to Cleveland to play the Indians, who begin the week with a current streak of 11 wins, the best in baseball this season. As for the Yankees, they will travel to Arlington to play the Texas Rangers over the weekend.
