The Cubs Curse in 2015

Chicago Cubs LogoChicago Cubs began with many questions in 2015 after their manager Rick Renteria dismissal and replacement in Joe Maddon who ended his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The team was looking for a star for rotation and made it with Jon Lester services for six years and 155 million dollars. In addition, the services of Miguel Montero and center fielder Dexter Fowler joined the efforts.

On August 30, 2015, Jake Arrieta threw the sixth no-hitter game of the season against the Los Angeles Dodgers on a 2-0 slate, as visitors and ended a run of six defeats in tow. Arrieta who had by that time a record 17-6 became the first pitcher to reach 17 wins in the majors and third in achieving a no-hitter game in just under three weeks. The pitcher is the last to do so since Carlos Zambrano did the feat in September 14, 2008 against the Astros.

The Cubs used in their lineup a mix of experience and youth, with which got the surprise outing of the basement in the Central and make it to the playoffs. The Cubs were measured at the Pittsburgh Pirates in the  Wild Card game. Arrieta the stymied them in nine innings with a 4-0 slate. Jake struck out 11, allowed four hits and no runs.

The End of the Dream

In the NLCS, the Mets put an end to the the Cubs dream in a  four straight games sweep (4-2, 4-1, 5-2 and 8-3), with which they extended to 70 years without participating in a World Series and 107 years that they do not get the championship. In addition, they left their record at 101-70.

Cubs took the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year

Kris Bryant had a brilliant season with the Cubs winning the Rookie of the Year award after hitting .275 and was the leader of the rookies with 26 home runs, 31 doubles and 99 RBIs. Meanwhile Jake Arrieta had a dream campaign to carry the team in several meetings. He also left his mark on 22-6 with a 1.77 ERA, striking out 236 rivals and delivered a no-hitter game to the Dodgers.
