yu darvish los angeles dodgersLed by excellent pitching from starter Yu Darvish and offensive contributions from Chris Taylor and Andre Ethier, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the defending champion Chicago Cubs 6-1 and now lead the National League Championship Series 3-0 with two more games remaining at Wrigley Field.

Darvish improved to 2-0 in the postseason as he pitched 6.1 solid innings, striking out seven batters while allowing six hits, one walk and just one a run.

Taylor and Ethier made sure Darvish had some run support as they each homered early in the game.

The Cubs looked to take advantage of playing in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field for the first time in this series. They scored in the first inning via a Kyle Schwarber homer off Darvish. However, the Dodgers immediately tied the game as Ethier homered in the second inning off Cubs’ starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks who earned the loss to fall to 1-1 in the postseason. The Dodgers took the lead in the third inning with a home run by Taylor also off Hendricks.

In the third Taylor gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead as he tripled to left field and allowed Joc Pederson to score from second.

Los Angeles scored again in the sixth inning as Darvish drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-1. The Dodgers scored two more runs in the top of the eighth inning when Logan Forsythe reached home safely taking advantage of a wild pitch by Mike Montgomery and later when Austin Barnes scored on a center field sacrifice fly by Kyle Farmer.

In the ninth, the Cubs threatened with back-to-back hits by Alex Avila and Albert Almora, but closer Kenley Jansen took the mound and shut out the Cubs with three straight outs, including two strikeouts.

On Wednesday’s game 4 Jake Arrieta will start for the Cubs, and Alex Woods will take the mound for the Dodgers. If the Dodgers win they could be headed to the World Series for the first time since 1988, where they would face the New York Yankees or the Houston Astros, teams that are battling it out in the American League Championship Series and is tied at two apiece.
