Championship Boxing Fights Lineup for Early 2019

manny pacquiao filipino boxerThe world of boxing enjoyed some great and thrilling fights in 2018 that will linger in the memory of fans around the world, but 2019 promises to be even more exciting with several big fights taking center stage early in the year.

In January there will be several championship fights to look forward. The most eye-catching bout being of course the one between Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Brody for Pac-Man’s WBA regular welterweight championship on January 19.

Other important fights in the opening month of the year are Jose Uzcategui against Caleb Plant on January 13, and Demetrius Andrade against Arthur Akavov on January 18.

On February 9 Gervonta Davis puts his WBA junior lightweight belt on the line against Abner Mares and seven days later Miguel Flores will challenge Leo Santa Cruz for the WBA featherweight championship.

Of course, it’s impossible to leave out of this list the combat between Eleider Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev that takes place on February 2 for the Alvarez WBO light heavyweight title.

Terrence Crawford is scheduled to fight in March against a fighter yet to be determined, with Amir Khan having been mentioned as the possible opponent, and in April both Vasiliy Lomachenko and Anthony Joshua are slated to step into the ring against fighters that have yet to be picked.

Of course, boxing negotiations are far from easy and any of those bouts could be derailed or postponed if a deal can’t be reached.

For now, boxing enthusiasts will have to settle for two championship bouts that already have a date for the month of March. In the first one (on March 9) Yordenis Uga challenges Shawn Porter for his WBC welterweight belt in Las Vegas; and then on March 16, Errol Spence Jr. puts his IBF welterweight championship on the line against Mikey Garcia at The Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
