Saints Owner Tom Benson Acquires The New Orleans Hornets

Tom Benson Buys New Orleans HornetsTom Benson, the popular owner of the New Orleans Saints, has now endeared himself even more with local sports fans by purchasing the floundering New Orleans Hornets professional basket ball team.

Benson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1927. He purchased the Saints from then owner John Mecom in 1985 after he learned from Governor Edwin Edwards that the team was on the verge of being sold to parties interested in moving the team to Jacksonville, Florida. NCAA Football Upsets & Blowouts!

NCAA Footbal UpsetsMost of the matchups in Week 3 in NCAA football action involved powerhouses handling their business. LSU, FSU, UGA, WVU, Michigan, Clemson, Texas, UCLA, Alabama, Oregon, Arizona and South Carolina all overwhelmed their unranked opponents. That was to be expected.

Injuries & Rehabs Around The Nfl Effect Betting Lines

Injuries and Rehabs in the NFLChicago Bears running back Matt Forte could end up missing a month or more because of an ankle injury suffered during Thursday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. As insurance, Chicago re-signed running back Kahlil Bell, according to a league source. Bell was with the Bears in camp and was cut — because, at least in part, of what was a high salary at the time.

The club also worked out Steve Slaton, the former Texans and Dolphins back. With Forte out, Michael Bush becomes the primary ball carrier.

Even a bad knee doesn’t slow down Urlacher. Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher was limited in practice all week as he continues to recover from a knee injury, but was active for Thursday’s game against the Packers. He finished the game with eight tackles-five solo-as the Bears fell. Continue Reading →

NFL Teams Benefited With New Injured Reserve Rules

New Injured Reserve RuleThis past Wednesday it was announced that the new collective bargaining agreement proposed by the NFL and NFLPA was finally approved, considerably altering the rules regarding injured reserve and shift the trade deadline to week 8 instead of week 6. This is considered a major change for competing teams looking to rise up talent from teams interested in finding fresh environments for crestfallen stars and to off-loading contracts they no longer find necessary.

This rule has been mostly accepted by the league; unfortunately the same thing can’t be said about the injured reserve rules that have also been presented this week, mostly because of their potential to change the landscape of the NFL completely. Continue Reading →
