What Are The Odds On Johnny Football?

Johnny FootballSports fans across the country are beginning to wonder if Mark Emmert and the NCAA Commissioners office are going too far in their pursuit of errant college athletes.  Is all this really necessary? Do we really expect these young athletes to be so, so perfect?  Or is the commissioner’s office just getting to be way to picky about their every little rule?

Whatever the case, the current scandal over Texas A&M Quarterback Johnny Manziel has reached national attention.  Football fans and bettors all around the country are now in a quandary wondering what Emmert and Co. will do with Johnny Football.  A lot depends on it. The Aggies are widely considered to be contenders for the BCS title next year…but without Manziel, what happens to those expectations… not to mention the odds.

In Las Vegas, at large sportsbooks like the MGM Grand, money continues to be laid down on the Aggies despite the Manziel controversy… perhaps more so than ever. Texas A&M’s odds to take the BCS title have moved all the way from 15-1 down to 4-1. Jeff Stoneback, sports manager at the MGM told the press, “They’re number two in terms of tickets written, and people are still betting ‘em at 4-1!

These bettors, along with Aggie fans everywhere, are all counting on Johnny Football playing football at Texas A&M this year.  It would be too strange for him to be told to sit out the season after winning the Heisman Trophy as a freshman last year and being the first freshman in FBS history to produce 3,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. It just wouldn’t be right.

The Aggies were 11-2 last season and face a tough schedule with Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide coming to College Station to take on the Aggies on their own home field in just the second game of the season. They will also have to travel back to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers who handed them their first defeat last season.

Only Ohio State has drawn more action in Nevada sportsbooks than Texas A&M so far. After being ineligible last year for post season action, Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes are expected to take the Big 10 title outright and make a serious run for the BCS Championship. Ohio State opened low at 4-1 but have since dropped even lower to 7-2.
