Dwight Howard Rockets To Houston, Vegas Moves Odds

Dwight Howard Moves to BostonDwight Howard’s move to Houston to play for the Rockets was met with mixed reactions all around the country.  The internet abounded with speculation about where Howard would end up for days before the decision was made and major sports books were even posting odds as to just where Dwight might end up.

On Sunday Dwight Howard’s Twitter account featured a new picture of him in a Houston Rockets uniform in the main photo. Howard wrote, “I’ve decided to become a member of the Houston Rockets.  I feel it’s the best place for me and I am excited about joining the Rockets and I’m looking forward to a great season.  I want to thank the fans in Los Angeles and wish them the best.”

Laker fans especially tended to get a little emotional over the issue with some wanting to hang on to Howard… despite all of the problems last year….and others just wanting it to be over with and get him gone.  The Lakers will be OK.

Many had counted Howard as gone long before the announcement. One of them was former Laker great Shaquille O’Neal who stated in an interview from the Daytona Raceway, “It was expected.  We’ve all been in LA, and not a whole lot of people can handle being under the bright lights.  Everybody wants to do it, but when you get there, there are certain pressures.  I think it was a safe move for him to go to a little town like Houston. That’s right, little town. I said it.”

There was a predictable changing of the odds for next year’s NBA title after the move of Howard to the Rockets.  The big LVH Superbook in Las Vegas moved the Rockets from 15-to-1 down to 12-to-1 after the announcement.  Previously they had moved the Rockets from 25-to-1 down to 15-to-1 on their estimate that Howard would end up in Houston. As it turned out, they were right on the money.

Phil Jackson, former Lakers head coach and still a big Lakers fan said on his Twitter page that he believes that he team will be just fine without Dwight Howard.

However, the big books don’t seem quite as confident in the Lakers future. They have raised the odds on LA from 40-to-1 all the way up to 100-to-1 which are the highest odds offered on the Lakers since before the days of Magic Johnson!
